More than just pancakes

Gathered around the table, cultures and languages mixed. Adults and children, families and friends, teachers and students. Plates filled with waffles and pancakes, eggs and sausage, and fruits galore! Everyone enjoying together what they worked together to make.

This is the scene this past Saturday when ADE joined our students in our English Program, Inglés Vida Nueva, and their families for a delicious breakfast! It was a time to get to know one another outside of the context of classes. It was a time to share culture. It was a time to share about the things God is doing through ADE. It was a time to share about God and His goodness. And of course, it was a time to share a delicious meal!

The time of sharing breakfast reminds me of 1 Corinthians 10:31

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

We don’t plan these types activities to receive recognition for ourselves, but to give glory to God. I give Him glory for the opportunity I have to be in Costa Rica. I give Him glory for the opportunity He has given ADE to start and maintain the English program, and that I get to be a part of it. I give Him glory for the support of my students and their families, both new and old. I give Him glory for my ADE team. I give Him glory for everything.

These things are never to be done to recognize ourselves, only to bring glory to God. It doesn’t matter how large our English program is, or whether I am the best English teacher, or even if we have the biggest, most delicious breakfast to share with one another. If it is not done for His glory, it is all done in vain.

I am so thankful for these opportunities and for the support of my ADE team, for my students and their families, for the family who has taken me in here in Costa Rica, for my family back home, and most of all for God. May we never take anything for granted and always do all for the glory of God.

Reunidos alrededor de la mesa, culturas e idiomas mezclaron. Adultos y niños, familias y amigos, profesores y estudiantes. Platos llenos con wafles y panqueques, huevos y salchichón y frutas abundantes. Todos disfrutando juntos que trabajaron juntos para hacer.

¡Esta es la escena de este sábado pasado cuando ADE reunió con nuestros estudiantes del programa de inglés, Inglés Vida Nueva, y sus familias para un desayuno delicioso! Fue un tiempo para conocer unos a otros fuera del contexto de clases. Fue un tiempo para compartir culturas. Fue un tiempo para compartir las cosas que Dios está haciendo por ADE. Fue un tiempo para compartir de Dios y su bondad. ¡Y fue un tiempo para compartir comida rica!

Este tiempo de compartir el desayuno me acuerdo de 1 Corintios 10:31

“Siempre que ustedes coman o beban, o hagan cualquier otra cosa, háganlo para honrar a Dios.”

No planeamos este tipo de actividades para recibir el reconocimiento para nosotros, sino para dar gloria a Dios. Le doy la gloria a Él por la oportunidad que tengo para estar en Costa Rica. Le doy la gloria a Él por la oportunidad que Él ha dado a ADE para empezar y mantener el programa de inglés, y que soy parte. Le doy la gloria a Él por el apoyo de mis estudiantes y sus familias, nuevos y viejos. Le doy la gloria a Él por mi equipo de ADE. Yo le doy la gloria por todo.

Estas cosas nunca deben ser hechas para reconocer nuestros mismos, sólo para traer la gloria a Dios. No importa si tuviéramos el programa de inglés más grande, ni si yo fuera la mejor profesora de inglés, aún si tuviéramos el desayuno más grande y más rico para compartir uno con otros. Si no se hace para su gloria, todo lo hace en vano.

Estoy muy agradecida por estas oportunidades y por el apoyo de mi equipo de ADE, por mis estudiantes y sus familias, por la familia que me ha aceptado aquí en Costa Rica, por mi familia, y sobre todo por Dios. Que nunca subestimemos nada y que siempre hagamos todo para honrar a Dios.
